Here you will find general information and fitting guides for Machina gear. Use this info as a guideline for making purchases - you should always consult with your trainer, when possible, concerning proper usage of protective gear.

FITTING FOR BOXING GLOVES

There is no exact system of measurement for fitting boxing gloves. A good fit is somewhat up to the wearer. We recommend measuring your hand, first from the tip of the middle finger to the base of your hand, then from front to back, across the knuckles.

If you're going to be making contact during your training you should ALWAYS wear hand wraps. Therefore if you’re trying on gloves be sure to wrap your hands or at least allow for some extra space.

Keep in mind that genuine leather gloves, just like shoes, will stretch somewhat over time, so a snug fit is not a bad thing. At the same time, a glove that is too tight can become uncomfortable during training and potentially cause unnecessary fatigue.

CARE FOR BOXING GLOVES

  1. It is a good idea to store your gloves in a way that they can air out to keep the exterior dry in between workouts.
  2. Clean the interior periodically with anti-bacterial wipes or gentle cleanser.
  3. Leather can crack over time so it is a good idea to treat gear with leather lotion or oil to preserve suppleness and extend its life.
  4. Your foam padding will begin to break down eventually so replace your protective gear as necessary. Exposure to heat and moisture can cause the padding to crumble so keep the gloves as dry as possible when not in use.

MEASURE:

  1. Length, Fingertip to Base
  2. Width, Around Knuckles

GUIDELINES FOR WRAPPING HANDS

Ideally, you should have an expert demonstrate how to wrap your hands properly, but you can find tons of videos online. Keep in mind, there are many methods of wrapping and no one way is perfect for everyone.

  1. Try to keep the wrap as smooth as possible, especially around the knuckles. No creases or wrinkles, please.
  2. Fingers should not be wrapped together; they need to move independently.
  3. Your wrapped hands should feel snug and compact, but not too tight or else it could affect your circulation.
  4. Your thumbs can be especially vulnerable so be sure to have them well secured.
  5. Wrists should be secured and supported, again, without being too tight. Don’t be afraid to go around an extra time or two, especially if your wrists are very slender or delicate.
  6. IF YOUR HAND WRAPS DON'T FEEL RIGHT, DO THEM OVER.

CARE FOR YOUR HAND WRAPS

Your Machina hand wraps should last you a good long time especially if you take care of them. Instead of respooling wraps after a workout, it's better to leave them loose and allow to air dry.

We like to toss them in the washing machine after every 2 or 3 uses, although you may be more (or less) of a germophobe. Use a mesh laundry bag to keep them from getting tangled with your other items. Wash as you would for cotton t-shirts, but please air dry your wraps to keep them in their best shape.

FITTING FOR VICTORIA HEAD GEAR

Our Victoria head gear is sized slightly smaller than other brands. If you normally wear a medium size of a unisex brand you'll want to get a Machina large.

To determine a good fit, use a tape measure to find the circumference of your head. Measure completely around starting about 1 inch above your eyebrows. Be sure to put your hair up as you would during sparring so you get the best size for you.

Victoria head gear secures in the back with velcro and can also be adjusted by laces on the top of the gear. We recommend having a trainer or someone assist you when putting on your head gear to make sure it's fully secured with a comfortable, snug fit.

Also, before putting on head gear make certain your hair is fixed in a way that it will not become a problem during sparring.

CARE FOR HEAD GEAR

  1. Just like gloves, store your head gear in a way that they can air out to keep the exterior dry in between workouts.
  2. Clean the interior often with anti-bacterial wipes or gentle cleanser.
  3. Leather can crack over time so it is a good idea to treat gear with leather lotion or oil to preserve suppleness and extend its life.
  4. Your foam padding will begin to break down eventually so replace your protective gear as necessary. Exposure to heat and moisture can cause the padding to crumble so keep the gear as dry as possible when not in use.

MEASURE:

  1. Circumference around head about 1 inch above the eyebrows, allowing room for hair
